Chatfield Ten Miler - A Beautiful Pre-Thanksgiving Run

Over ninety runners and racewalkers finished the course on the sunny fall morning in beautiful Chatfield State Park. Balloons and dog trails provided a little distraction, but Oscar Ponce finished the trail run first overall in less than an hour. Chris Voeller and Trail Man came in a couple of minutes later. Brandy Erholtz was the first female finisher at 1:05:57, with Tania Pacev and Carrie Zourafos finishing within the next five minutes. The course was in good shape thanks to the warm weather the previous week. The trail started at the gravel pond and took several loops while meandering along the river through the bare trees. A little sand in the last three miles provided extra challenge. Racewalkers finished the 4+ mile course starting at the gravel pond and turning around at Discovery Pavillion.

With 90 official racers, the turnout was superb. Thanks especially to our volunteers without whom this race could not have happened. Jim Romero directed traffic and Connie Ahrnsbrak registered racers before running the race. Chris and Mike Vanoni ran to the first waterstop and then ran back and helped Joe Baird with the finish line. Other volunteers who helped with waterstops, course marshalling, and clean up were James Taylor, Paul Grimm, Derek Griffiths, Deb Acree, Alice Bedard-Voorhees, Jan Huie, Lou Shaw and Levi Gonzales. And thanks to Joe Sanchez who brings the CMRA equipment to the races.
