Matthews Winters Park 6 miler
|
This is the inaugural Amazing Race! Race registration and start will be held in the Stegosaurus Park-n-Ride Lot on the east side of Highway 93 (Hog Back Rd.) across from Matthews/Winters Park. Please follow race-day signs to parking and registration. The race will finish in the Matthews/Winters parking lot.10K Runners: This is a challenging but rewarding 10K that begins with a steep climb to the Dakota Ridge Trail. Enjoy the vista views but watch your footing; the ridge is precarious in parts. Runners will run south along the ridge until descending at Dinosaur Ridge to West Alameda Parkway. Here there will be an aid station and a Port-O-Let. Racers will then continue on Dakota Ridge Trail to cross Hogback Rd. A brief stretch on Red Rock Parks Road will lead runners to Red Rocks Trail which will be taken all the way back to Matthews/Winters Park. A second aid station will be located where the Red Rocks Trail crosses West Alameda Parkway. 5K Walkers: The race walk course is an out and back. Walkers will start at the same time as the runners but will be going in the opposite direction. After crossing Hogback Rd the walkers get on Village Walk trail and then continue south onto Red Rocks Trail. When walkers reach the Morrison Slide trail junction they will turn around and take the same route back to the finish. There are no aid stations on the race walk course but water bottles will be provided at the start. Please carpool to the race start. Our race-day parking is limited to the Stegosaurus Park-n-Ride Lot on the east side of Highway 93 (Hog Back Rd.), south of I-70. (Jefferson County Open Space requires that we not park in the Matthews/Winters parking lot.) We will be running a rocky and rugged route. For the safety of runners, there will be no dogs allowed on the racecourse. |
See the Google Map for the parking lot.
Directions: From I-70 take exit 259 at the Hogback and head south toward Red Rocks park / Morrison. The Stegosaurus lot is on the east side of the road just across from the Matthews / Winters park lot. Additional parking lots are on the opposite (North) side of I-70.
